Being in the center of Forest Row, the whole village is at your feet to explore on foot. The main street boasts an unusual and varied mix of independent shops, from art galleries and antique stores to organic food outlets, which give a flavor of the village’s life and slightly bohemian character. You’ll enjoy wandering through these shops one afternoon, popping into one of the little cafes for tea and cake, and soaking up that friendly village feel.

It’s the outstanding Ashdown Forest that the area’s all about and it’s easily got into from the village. Various public footpaths run from the edge of the village out onto the heathland and into the woods of the forest, so some of the best country walks are right out and back from the hotel. One destination to visit is ‘Pooh Sticks Bridge’ in reality is just a delightful walk of two miles from the heart of the village, which takes you through those same landscapes that were inspired by A. A. Milne’s famous stories.

Dining may be further provided for at the inn’s own celebrated pub, but there’s more on tap a few minutes away in the village at traditional pubs, Indian restaurants and cafes to break up the journey. Local bakeries and a supermarket service most other daily needs. It's an easy walk so you can leave your car at the inn and enjoy total immersion in the village and its countryside around it with no driving for miles.
